Why Should I Get Baptised?
Baptism is an essential act for every Christian and serves as a representation of your participation in Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
So why should you get baptised?
- Baptism is an act of obedience to Christ’s command. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus instructs His followers to baptize new believers, making it clear that baptism is a fundamental step in the process of making disciples. Baptism publicly identifies the believer with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection, and affirms one's commitment to follow Christ and His teachings.
- Baptism is a way to publicly profess faith in Jesus. It is an outward declaration of an inward transformation, demonstrating the believer's faith in Christ’s work of salvation. Acts 2:41 and Colossians 2:12 highlight that baptism goes hand in hand with faith, serving as a visible and tangible expression of trust in the gospel.
- Baptism signifies a commitment to Christ’s people, the church. In Acts 2:41, those baptised were added to the church, emphasizing that baptism is not just a personal decision but one that unites the believer with the wider body of Christ. It is through baptism that a believer is formally received into the fellowship of the church, and their commitment to Christ is mirrored by their commitment to the community of believers.
